Accessibility Statement
West-End Septic & Pumping is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all visitors, including those with disabilities. This statement describes the standards we follow, the features we have implemented, and how you can report any accessibility barriers you encounter.
Accessibility is not just a legal obligation for us — it is a matter of doing business the right way. We want every customer, regardless of ability, to be able to use our website, book a service, and receive assistance from our team without unnecessary barriers.
This statement applies to our website at westendseptic.top and to the digital and phone-based service channels we operate. It does not apply to third-party websites we link to.
1. Our Commitment
West-End Septic & Pumping is committed to providing an accessible experience for everyone. We believe that:
- Access to information should not depend on a person's ability
- Accessibility benefits all users, not only those with disabilities
- Accessibility is an ongoing practice, not a one-time project
- Feedback from users with disabilities is essential to improving our site
This commitment reflects our obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and our alignment with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
2. Conformance Status
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological disabilities.
Our current status is:
- Substantially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA
- Some content may not fully conform — see Section 6 for known limitations
- We are actively working to remediate any gaps
"Substantially conformant" means that while most of our website meets the standard, some parts do not yet fully meet all success criteria. We are committed to ongoing improvement.
3. Accessibility Features
Our website has been designed with the following accessibility features:
Visual
- Text contrast ratios that meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA requirements (minimum 4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text)
- Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
- Layouts reflow properly without horizontal scrolling at 320px viewport width
- Content is readable and functional without relying solely on color to convey meaning
- Images include descriptive alternative text where they convey information
Keyboard & Navigation
- All interactive elements are reachable and operable using a keyboard alone
- Visible focus indicators on all focusable elements
- A "Skip to main content" link at the top of every page for keyboard and screen reader users
- Logical heading hierarchy (H1 → H2 → H3) across all pages
- Consistent navigation structure site-wide
- No keyboard traps — you can always navigate away from any element
Screen Reader & Semantic Markup
- Semantic HTML5 elements (header, nav, main, footer, section, article)
- ARIA labels on interactive elements and landmarks where appropriate
- Form fields include associated labels and helpful descriptions
- Error messages identify the field in error and describe the problem
- Modal dialogs are announced to assistive technology and can be closed via the Escape key
Motion & Timing
- No content flashes more than three times per second
- Animations are subtle and non-essential; content remains usable without them
- No auto-playing audio or video with sound
- No time limits on forms or interactive tasks
4. Assistive Technology Support
Our website is designed to work with commonly used assistive technologies, including:
- Screen readers: NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver (macOS and iOS), TalkBack (Android)
- Screen magnifiers: ZoomText, Windows Magnifier, macOS Zoom
- Speech recognition: Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Windows Speech Recognition, macOS Dictation
- Alternative input devices: switch access, head pointers, and other adaptive hardware
We test primarily with modern versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. Older browsers may not support all accessibility features.
5. Accessible Service Delivery
Accessibility extends beyond our website. We are committed to making our in-person and phone-based services accessible as well:
Phone & Communication
- All services can be booked by phone at (951) 520-1020, without requiring website use
- Our team is trained to communicate clearly and patiently with all callers
- For customers who are Deaf or hard of hearing, we can coordinate service via email at [email protected], text message, or through a relay service of your choice
- Written service reports and invoices are available in accessible digital formats on request
On-Site Service
- Technicians will accommodate reasonable requests related to mobility, communication, or sensory needs during a service visit
- Service animals are welcome at all times
- We will coordinate with a caregiver, family member, or support person you designate
- If our standard procedures create a barrier for you, please tell us in advance and we will work with you to find a solution
6. Known Limitations
Despite our best efforts, some content or features on our site may not yet fully conform to WCAG 2.1 AA. Known limitations include:
- Third-party embedded content: The interactive map on our Contact page is provided by OpenStreetMap and may not fully meet all accessibility standards. The address is also available as plain text on the same page.
- Third-party fonts: Google Fonts may load asynchronously, which can affect rendering for some users briefly. A system font fallback is available.
- Older PDF documents: Some older documents may not be fully tagged for screen reader use. If you encounter an inaccessible PDF, contact us and we will provide the information in an accessible format.
- Complex data tables: Very large tables (such as the septic pumping frequency table) may be challenging to navigate on small screens. Alternative formats are available on request.
We are actively working to address these limitations. If you encounter a specific barrier, please report it using the contact details in Section 8 — we want to fix it.
7. Assessment Approach
We assess the accessibility of our website through a combination of:
- Self-evaluation: Our team reviews code and content against WCAG 2.1 AA checkpoints during development and after updates
- Automated testing: Tools such as Lighthouse, axe DevTools, and WAVE identify common accessibility issues
- Manual testing: Keyboard-only navigation testing, screen reader spot-checks, and color contrast verification
- User feedback: Reports from users with disabilities are prioritized and investigated promptly
We do not currently use a third-party accessibility auditor, but we may do so in the future as part of our ongoing improvement process.
8. Feedback & Reporting Barriers
We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of our website and services. If you encounter any barriers, please let us know — your report helps us improve for everyone.
What to Include in Your Report
- The web address (URL) of the page or the specific service involved
- A description of the problem you experienced
- The assistive technology or browser you were using, if relevant
- Your preferred format for our response (email, phone, accessible document)
- Your contact information so we can follow up

9. Formal Complaints
If you are not satisfied with our response to an accessibility concern, you have the right to file a formal complaint with the appropriate authority. Depending on your location and the nature of the concern, this may include:
- U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division: For concerns related to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Information is available at ada.gov/file-a-complaint.
- California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH): For concerns related to California disability access laws. Information is available at calcivilrights.ca.gov.
- U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights: Where applicable to educational institutions we may partner with.
We would prefer the opportunity to resolve any accessibility concern with you directly first. Please contact us using the details in Section 8 before escalating to a formal complaint.
10. Third-Party Content
Our website may include or link to content and services provided by third parties, such as Google Fonts, Google Analytics, OpenStreetMap, and external browser-support documentation. We do not control the accessibility of these third-party services, and we cannot guarantee their conformance with WCAG 2.1 AA.
Where possible, we provide accessible alternatives or fallbacks (such as plain-text addresses in place of maps). If a third-party service creates a barrier for you, please let us know — while we cannot change their code, we can often provide the same information through an alternative channel.
11. Changes to This Statement
We may update this Accessibility Statement periodically to reflect improvements, changes in standards, or updates to our services. When we make material changes, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this page.
We encourage you to review this page periodically to stay informed about our accessibility practices. Your continued use of our website constitutes acceptance of the current version of this statement.
